Mikumi National Park - From Zanzibar & Dar es salaam

Mikumi National Park located at the north bordered to the south with the Selous Game Reserve, the two areas forming a unique ecosystem. Two other natural areas bordering the national park are the Udzungwa Mountains and Uluguru Mountains. Mikumi National Park covers an area of 3230 km² hence is the fifth largest in the country. Mikumi is a very short safari from Dar es Salaam, approximately 5hrs by vehicle from Dar es salaam. It is one of the most frequently visited National Parks in Tanzania.

Mikumi National Park surrounded by open grasslands and mountain ranges hosts’ small and large mammals including variety of birds species and reptiles. Mikumi is a home of Elephants, Lions, Wild dogs, Zebras, Hyena, Buffalo, Wildebeest, Eland, Hartebeest, Baboons, Hippos and Crocodiles.

Dry Season

June – Mid November: Best time for game viewing.

December – February: Humid & Hot: Good time for game viewing.

Rain Season

Mid November – Mid December: Short Rain : Wonderful for bird life and lush scenery

April – May: Heavy rain: Wonderful for bird life and lush scenery.



2 Days / 1 Night Package from Dar es salaam

Day 1: Dar es salaam to Mikumi National Park

Pickup from the Airport/Ferry or your Accommodation in Dar es salaam. Apprx. Time of Departure: 04.30hrs drive to Mikumi National Park ( Apprx 4hrs drive) Arrival: Better before 10:00hrs and starting a game drive with lunch box. Afternoon proceed with game drive with sunset view or watch the animal’s drinking water at hippo pool. Dinner and overnight at the Camp Bastian, Mikumi Safari Lodge or Tan Swiss Lodge.

Day 2: Mikumi National Park to Dar es salaam

After breakfast, game drive in Mikumi National Park with lunch box until 15.00hrs when you’ll en route back to Dar es salaam with stopover in Chalinze Town for washroom. Then proceed with a drive direct and drop you off at your Accommodation or Airport in Dar es salaam.
